Be An Educated Carpet Consumer
A hand-woven Persian oriental rug brings a neutral living room to life.
|
- Buy from an established retailer of oriental rugs with a trusted reputation earned through serving the community.
- Avoid traveling auctions, often held at hotels and airports. They may be here today and gone tomorrow. You should protect yourself by being able to deal with someone on an ongoing basis.
- Beware of going out of business sales, which may be promotional schemes, where values are exaggerated and the quality of merchandise is mediocre or below average. Once a company is out of business, there's no one to turn to.
- Be aware that sales with deep discounts like 70 and 80 percent off feature high mark-ups to accommodate this kind of discounting. The end result is that you may pay more for less.
- Once you have found a carpet that appeals to you, feel free to question the retailer about its quality and suitability for the area you have in mind.
- You should not buy a carpet until you have thoroughly inspected the actual piece or a representative sample for its quality, color and design. Most reputable retailers will allow you to try a rug at home for a day or so without any obligation of keeping it.
